They call it the City of Contradiction because here....the sun rises in the West, ..and sets in the East. And the name that New Orleans made for themselves as a brotherly, loving, and abiding city for their people did not live up to that ...I'll tell you why. I learned so much from my recent trip to Louisiana, some for the good, some for the bad...but to learn and grow is the main thing I take from the experience...My thoughts are lengthy on what I saw...so I may blog on this several times...from a different viewpoint but basically, I just felt like sharing it with someone.....
As we venture further into 9th ward we sink deeper under water. "Now you're 5 feet under water...10 feet under water..., 15 feet under water", my tour guide says.
Passing through this low income neighborhoods, we see its abandoned, these people have not returned because they lost everything. They are the last to be helped, there is no aide for them and this portion of New Orleans has been left for dead.
The houses that we passed, had huge X's on them, and a # beside them which represented the #of bodies found inside the home. It's disheartening, hurtful to see such devastation, 4 years after this hurricane has passed.
Four years.
FOUR ...YEARS!!!!! And it looks as if Katrina happened YESTERDAY.
This is why no one has returned...they have nothing to come back to.
No support, no help. and no hope for a future there.
